Former English skipper Kevin Pietersen hit back at all the critics over his concussion substitute statement on the Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon during the ongoing second Test of the Ashes 2023 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. He posted a video of Ricky Ponting clarifying his statements.
Kevin Pietersen received a lot of flak for his statement on the Day 4 of the Lord’s Test match. During Australia’s second innings, as injured Nathan Lyon came to bat in the end, the former England cricketer said that Australia sent him to bat in the hope that they could get a concussion substitute if the off-spinner is hit by the bouncer.

Following his statement, Kevin Pietersen faced a lot of backlash and even Nathan Lyon said that he found the statement very absurd as he has lost one of his friends (Phil Hughes) due to being hit on the head. Many fans too slammed him for this.
Ricky Ponting, however, while commentating clarified Kevin Pietersen’s statement. He said that there has been a negative chat about that comments, which is unfair. It was a fun chat at the back of the commentary box and no one would want to see anyone getting hit on the head on head.
