Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen has stunned one and all by taking a mini break from the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). The reason behind Kevin Pietersen’s short break is even more surprising, with the official statement yet to be released.
The Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals are enjoying a perfect start to their IPL 2025 campaign. They are the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far. After a close win in their first game against Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings in back-to-back matches to validate their dominance in the ongoing IPL 2025.

With a 25-run victory over Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk, DC strengthened its position in the IPL 2025 points table with six points from three games so far in the ongoing tournament. After helping Delhi Capitals crush Chennai Super Kings, Kevin Pietersen has decided to take a short break.

As reported by the Times of India, Pietersen has flown to the Maldives right after the CSK versus DC match in Chennai, and he will miss his team’s upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 10 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
However, the former England cricketer will be back in time for DC’s home clash against the Mumbai Indians on April 13. Notably, the franchise has not yet made any comment on the Englishman’s sudden holiday break in the middle of the tournament.
Delhi Capitals remains the unbeaten side in the IPL 2025
Meanwhile, DC’s bowlers have been outstanding, with Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav delivering consistently for the team in the tournament. On the batting front, the players are stepping up when needed. They are looking at the dangerous side to lift the title this time around.
Kevin Pietersen is really impressed with KL Rahul’s fresh approach and positive mindset. The Karnataka batter showed great intent during his brilliant knock of 77 runs from 51 balls against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on a hot Saturday afternoon.
Rahul’s innings came on a slow and tricky pitch, but he stayed calm and smartly built his knock, helping Delhi Capitals post a strong total of 183/6 while batting first. His performance set the stage perfectly for the bowlers, as they restricted CSK to 158/5 and sealed a 25-run win for DC.
Kevin Pietersen hails KL Rahul's knock against CSK
Pietersen said of Rahul after the match, “Your intent in Vizag, you struck at 300, and I was happy with you. Today, striking at 150, still on a different wicket…you must be absolutely buzzing that you’re able to adapt your style to the modern-day game.”
Notably, the Capitals skipper, Axar Patel, has reached a big milestone in his IPL journey. He completed 1,000 runs for the franchise during their match against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. With this, Axar also became the first all-rounder in DC’s history to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets in the Indian Premier League.
