The 44th game of the ongoing IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was called off due to rain and a wet outfield. Both teams locked horns against each other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday (April 26).
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision was justified as the Punjab-based outfit scored 201/4 in the allotted 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya gave the visitors a solid start with the bat by adding 120 runs for the first wicket.
Andre Russell broke the partnership by dismissing Priyansh for 69. Prabhsimran, on the other hand, scored 83. For KKR, Vaibhav Arora was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets.
With the bat, KKR scored 7/0 after 1 over when the game was halted and eventually called off. With the match coming to an end, we are taking a look at what KKR need to qualify for the playoffs.

Playoffs qualification scenario for KKR:
The washout meant KKR got just one point from the game. While it increased their points tally by 1 point, it did not make any difference to their position in the points table. KKR continue to languish at the seventh spot in the points table with just 7 points after 9 games.
While KKR's chances of qualifying for the playoffs are extremely low, they are still in contention for a spot in the top four. However, the road ahead is not at all easy for the reigning champions, and they need nothing less than a miracle to progress ahead of the league stage.
KKR have five more league games left, and they can win a maximum of eight games. If they win all of their remaining games, they will reach 17 points, which will be enough for a place in the playoffs. In the past seasons, teams have consistently qualified for the playoffs with 7 or 8 wins. So, they will have a good chance of making it to the top four if they win the remaining 5 games.
However, another loss or two would not only make things trickier but could also dump them out of the tournament. Even if KKR win 4 of the remaining 5 games, they will have to depend on other results.
