Earlier in the day, New Zealand Cricket Chief executive David White confirmed that Tim Siefert has returned positive for the virus.

“It’s really unfortunate for Tim and we’ll do everything for him that we can from this end, and hopefully he will be able to test negative and be cleared and approved for discharge as soon as he’s well again,” White said.

“Since receiving the news, we’ve organized support for Tim and have also — via the players association, been in contact with his family to ensure they’re kept fully informed and updated on developments,” he added.

Kolkata Knight Riders was the first camp that got plagued with Covid-19 after wrist-spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier returned positive.

The virus soon spread to CSK camp with L. Balaji and a bus driver testing positive. The final nail in the coffin was hammered when Delhi Capitals Amit Mishra and SunRisers Hyderabad’s Wriddhiman Saha tested positive, forcing the BCCI to suspend the 14th season for an indefinite period of time.
