Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria said Kuldeep Yadav was filled with confidence in the first ODI versus Sri Lanka on Sunday in Colombo. The chinaman, who has struggled to find a place in India’s eleven for the last two years, picked a couple of crucial wickets and was smiles after that.
Danish Kaneria observed Kuldeep Yadav slowed down his deliveries and gave it plenty of flight which foxed the home batters. The former spinner also pointed out the leg-spinner’s drop in form post-MS Dhoni’s retirement.

“I got to see confidence in Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling today. He was flighting as well as pushing the ball. The confidence will build up again. People say that Kuldeep Yadav lost his confidence after the departure of MS Dhoni. But the experience of Rahul Dravid and the confidence that he might have given him, he looked a different bowler today,” Danish Kaneria said in his YouTube video.
Very happy that after a long time Chahal and I got to play together: Kuldeep Yadav
India chased down the target of 263 with 7 wickets in hand and over 13 overs to spare. It was the bowlers who restricted the Sri Lankan batters.
For the first time since the 2019 World Cup, both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal played together in an ODI. And based on their reputation prior to the World Cup, both made inroads in the middle-overs.
“Very happy that after a long time Chahal and I got to play together for the team. We are comfortable with each other and we back each other. We both share inputs on the field whenever it is required, the bonding is nice between us both. We performed well together, we played after a long time and it orders well for the side,” Yadav said after India’s win.
The second ODI is scheduled for Tuesday at the same venue.
