The Hundred is a unique tournament organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This is the only cricket league in the world that uses the 100-ball cricket format. The Hundred has eight teams, with seven based in England and one in Wales. One of the franchises, named London Spirit have announced their captain in the form of Liam Livingstone.
Liam Livingstone has been one of the finest all-rounders for England in the T20I setup. The English cricketer has experience playing in various franchise leagues in the world and also has some leadership experience, as he led the national side in the ODI format back in 2024. This is a good opportunity for Liam Livingstone to turn things around for the franchise.
I am really looking forward to leading London Spirit- Liam Livingstone
Liam, after taking up the leadership role, said: “I am really looking forward to leading London Spirit out at Lord’s this summer. It’s an iconic ground, and with the largest crowds in the country, I know the fans will create a special atmosphere for every match. There is so much talent throughout the squad and I want us to make some history this summer. I can’t wait to get started.”
Liam Livingstone was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), which is the Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2021. He helped his team, Birmingham Phoenix, to reach the final in the same year. He has been associated with the franchise since the last five editions of the tournament and captained the side in last year’s campaign.
He will lead from the front- Andy Flower on Liam Livingstone as captain
London Spirit Head Coach, Andy Flower, said: “Liam is a fantastic person to work with, both on and off the field. I’ve known him since he and I were both with the England Lions. Signing him to London Spirit was one of the first things we wanted to do because we knew how significant he will be to everything we are doing at Lord’s this summer.”
“Liam’s determination to improve and succeed is fundamental to what we are looking to establish at London Spirit. He will lead from the front: of that, I have no doubt.” Last year, London Spirit finished 7th in the 8-team league tournament, losing five and winning just three games. This season, they will look to change their fortunes and win their maiden title.
