Former West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard mentioned his ambitions of playing in the Big Bash League (BBL). The 35-year-old has represented Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s T20 franchise league.
Pollard’s last appearance in BBL was in the 2017/18 edition with Renegades and since then the all-rounder hasn’t featured in the tournament. He signed up for the BBL draft scheduled on August 28.
I’m looking forward to entertaining the fans: Kieron Pollard
Pollard said he wants to entertain the fans in Australia if at all he gets picked by a BBL team for the 12th season (2022-23).
“Getting an opportunity to play in the Big Bash now and entertaining the fans is something that I’m looking forward to again. When I get within a team, it’s just a matter of fitting into their practice sessions and doing what is needed,” Pollard was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“I have a routine that I go through no matter if I’m playing international cricket or just playing leagues around the world to ensure that my body is on a good track,” he added.
I’m never fazed by criticism over form: Kieron Pollard
Pollard had a dismal season with Mumbai Indians this year in the IPL 2022, scoring just 144 runs in 11 innings at 14.20 with the best score of 25. Pollard also announced his international retirement in April 2022.
The former West Indies captain remains unfazed by the comments over his lean patch.
“These things happen, sometimes you lose form, you lose confidence at times and over a couple of games it doesn’t work out. That gives the media the opportunity to dig out those stats and go ‘you know, his strike rate is low, he can do this, and he can’t do that anymore, he’s finished, there’s a new kid on the block’ and all these things,” Pollard said.
“But I’m never fazed by those things, everybody goes through that. I’ve played cricket for a long period of time, I know what I can do,” he added.
Pollard played for Surrey in the Vitality T20 Blast in June and currently is playing for London Spirit in the Men’s Hundred 2022.
