The (WIPL) Women’s IPL is expected to be the next big thing in World Cricket & change the face of Women’s Cricket. The league is assumed to start in March 2023 with 5 teams. The invitation to Tender (ITT) would be available till 21st January. Over 20 parties have bought the ITT which includes IPL franchises as well

The Indian Women’s Cricket team has been making quite decent progress but failing in the knock-out stages of the tourney which ruins all the hard work. The Women in Blue in the 2020 T20 WC final were completely outplayed by the Aussies.

Manchester United on WIPL

Manchester United own a team in the UAE ILT20 named Desert Vipers. Phil Olivier, the CEO of Desert Vipers made some interesting comments on WIPL. “I can’t reveal the details of how far we are in that process but I am happy to say that we are looking into all opportunities, including the WIPL. The India market is of interest to us. A lot of Indian cricket fans will be watching this tournament and will see what the Desert Vipers will bring to that. If anything, we want to bring an exciting brand of cricket to the Indian fans, just as to our fans all around the world,” said Phil Olivier.

The peculiarity of this league is that a team can field 5 overseas players in the playing 11 where we can see an International League. Many cricketers & experts believe that WIPL can surpass designated Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League.

If Manchester United owners buy a team then it can do wonders for the Women’s Cricket. Franchises like Mumbai Indians (MI) & Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are quite keen to enter into the WIPL.
