Australia skipper Pat Cummins expressed his disappointment after failing to secure a series victory against England in the recently concluded Ashes series. Pat Cummins admitted that they were outplayed by the hosts in Manchester but added that the remaining four games were evenly contested.
The Pat Cummins-led team started the Ashes 2023 series on a high note by winning the first two matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s. They suffered losses in two of the last three games at Headingley and Old Trafford. The Aussies failed to win the series despite having a 2-0 lead in the first half of the series.
Overall A Good Tour – Pat Cummins
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pat Cummins described the Ashes 2023 series as a good tour for them.
“I think in Manchester we were outplayed. The other four matches were pretty even, right to the end,” Cummins told reporters.
“We got on the right end for the first two games, then couldn’t get over the line in the last few. Disappointing, but overall a good tour. There were lots of key moments we didn’t get quite right,” he added.
The Australia team last drew an Ashes series on English soil in 2019, under Tim Paine’s captaincy, with a 2-2 result. Their last Test series victory in England dates back to 2001, but they came close to breaking that record in their last two attempts.
Australia Retained Third Place In WTC Points Table
Australia retained their third spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table after the completion of the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval in London. The Pat Cummins-led team suffered a 49-run loss against the Ben Stokes-led team in the Ashes finale on Monday, July 31.
Australia were bowled out for 334 runs in their second innings while chasing a target of 384 runs. The Aussies were in third place on the table with 54.17 percentage points, while England improved their points percentage from 29.13 to 43.33 percentage points with the win.
