Star England express pacer Mark Wood has decided to take an indefinite break from all forms of cricket after getting ruled out of the ongoing West Indies tour and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Notably, Pacer Mark Wood picked up a right elbow injury during the first Test match of the series against the West Indies National Cricket Team in North Sound.

In an official statement released by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), it was confirmed that the English pacer will miss the remainder of the fixture against the West Indies after suffering a severe right elbow injury. The statement added that he will return to the UK next week for a specialist opinion regarding the management of his elbow injury.

“England Men’s seamer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the rest of the Test series against West Indies. Scan results have confirmed that Wood has a right elbow injury. He will return to the UK next week for a specialist opinion regarding the management of his injury,” England and Wales Cricket Board stated.

It was further stated that the right-arm pacer Mark Wood, who was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru for a hefty amount of INR 7.5 crore, will miss the entire T20 league. ECB added that the pacer has also decided to take an indefinite break from cricket.

The Durham quick, who was due to play in the Indian Premier League, will now miss the tournament and will have an indefinite break from cricket until more information is determined from the elbow specialist,” ECB stated.

“England Men will confirm whether a replacement will be called up in due course ahead of the third Test in Grenada,” the statement added.
