Justin Langer’s resignation as head coach of the Australian team has made a few heads turn in their cricket circuit. Several of Langer’s teammates and former Australian cricketers were surprised about the sequence of events that led to his stepping down.
Mitchell Johnson who has been a big admirer of Langer has taken a direct dig at Pat Cummins, Australia’s newly appointed Test skipper and held him responsible for Langer’s exit.
Mitchell Johnson said that Pat Cummins is being looked upto as a “cricket saint” since the time he has been assigned as Australia’s Test captain. Johnson added that Cummins has failed in his ‘big Test’ as a captain.
“Pat Cummins has been lauded as some type of cricketing saint since his elevation to the top job this summer. Cummins might have delivered with the ball during the Ashes series, but he has failed his first big test as captain pretty miserably,” stated Johnson as quoted by Fox Sports.
Johnson further said that Cummins had plenty of opportunities to stand up for Langer during this entire period about Justin Langer’s extension but he did not. The left-arm pacer called Pat Cummins gutless as well for not respecting the head coach.

“He had plenty of public opportunities to endorse an extension for Langer. So when he let it through to the keeper every time, it became pretty obvious he didn’t want it to happen,” added Johnson.
“Cummins holds a lot of power and must have been central to what’s happened. He’s clearly had an agenda to get in a coach he wants. His recent interviews have been gutless by not respecting his coach when he could have been upfront from the start,” concluded Mitchell Johnson.
Australia will next play Sri Lanka in a five-match T20I series at home. The series will be played between February 11-20.
