Justin Langer’s contract as head coach of the Australian cricket team will expire after the series against Pakistan. There are reports that he might be axed this week by various media houses. However, the board will make a fair assessment before announcing a decision on the same. Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins has said that his assessment by the board is only fair.

Justin Langer took over as the coach of the Australian cricket team following the infamous sandpaper gate scandal in the Cape Town Test in 2018. Since then, he has worked hard within the team and has tried building a different team culture.

He recently won the T20 World Cup and the Ashes series as head coach. This only validates the fact that he deserves an extension with two ICC events coming up.

“JL’s been doing a fantastic job, he’s been there for four years, his contract is obviously up soon, they’re just going through an evaluation process at the moment, which I think is fair, the right thing to do.

“We all get evaluated all the time as cricketers. It’s part of a high-performance environment. That process is happening, it’s a decision for Cricket Australia and we just have to wait. That’s Cricket Australia’s job, it’s not my job. I’ve really loved my time working with JL,” said Cummins.

“We have had an evaluation process, I have been part of that. A lot of other players and staff have been part of that.  I’ve got huge respect for JL, I really like working with him,” Cummins further added.

While Langer’s success has been praised his failures as coach has been pointed out as well. There are speculations over his future with the Australian team within the Australian media. However, his former teammates like Matthew Hayden, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist have come out in support of Langer’s contract extension.
