England team’s head coach Chris Silverwood has pointed out the possibility of seeing Moeen Ali head to London for the second Test against India which is starting from August 12, Thursday. This comes on the back of England’s troubled batting order, which has misfired, apart from Joe Root.

In order to add more depth to the batting line-up, Silverwood brought up Moeen’s name as a candidate. Moeen is currently participating in ‘The Hundred’ and can definitely show up for the Lord’s Test in time. He is the captain of Birmingham Phoenix which is sitting at the top of the table with four wins in six matches.

Moeen is certainly under consideration. He’s always been part of our consideration. So that’s something Joe and I are going to chat about at Lord’s. We know he is a fine cricketer and we know he is showing fine form in The Hundred at the moment, though I appreciate it’s a different format,” Silverwood was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Since all-rounder Ben Stokes announced that he’s taking an indefinite break from cricket, England found themselves short of a proper all-rounder. Stokes used to provide England with the balance they needed in order to play three seamers and Jack Leach. Without him, they lack a spinner who can take the load off the pacers and keep things tight at one end. This is where Moeen Ali could come into the picture.

All-rounders such as Ben Stokes or Chris Woakes usually give you options all-round. Unfortunately, we’ve found ourselves squeezed through circumstances recently and we haven’t been able to do that. Could Mo play at Lord’s? All I’ll say is my mind is not closed to anything. If it fits and works for the team, then it’s something we have to consider,” the coach said.

The second Test between England and India kicks off with the series level at 0-0 after the first match at Trent Bridge ended in a draw.
