Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir had to change his tune after Team India secured a thrilling seven-run victory over England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The Men in Blue held their nerve in a massive run chase to knock out England in the second semifinal of the tournament.
India have officially booked their ticket to the T20 World Cup 2026 final. They will travel to Ahmedabad to face New Zealand in the ultimate summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 8. Notably, the Men in Blue have the chance to become the first team to win three T20 World Cups.
India Played Complete Cricket Today - Mohammad Amir Makes U-Turn On His Prediction
Following the match, Amir blamed England's poor fielding for the result, stating that dropping crucial catches completely changed the momentum. He stated that Harry Brook dropped in-form batter Sanju Samson's catch, which made a difference in the result.
"India played complete cricket today. They hadn’t played like this throughout the tournament, although I had always said they were a good team," Mohammad Amir stated.
"If you drop the catch of an in-form batter, this is what happens. When you drop a catch while he is on 15 and he goes on to score 90 off 35 balls, that makes the difference. In the end, you lost by just seven runs," Mohammad Amir explained.
England Could Have Chased The Target One Over Earlier - Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Amir stated that the bowling attacks of both teams were similar, except for one massive difference in Jasprit Bumrah. He also praised Axar Patel for taking their chances under extreme pressure.
"I think England’s fielding was the big difference between the two sides. Overall, both teams’ bowling looked quite similar apart from Bumrah," Amir said during his analysis.
"Harry Brook dropped the catch of an in-form batter, while Axar Patel took two brilliant catches. Harry Brook and Will Jacks were batting really well. If catches had not been taken, England could have chased the target one over earlier," he added.

"India played a complete cricket. It's not my fault that England dropped catch of an in-form batsman like Sanju.
The difference between the two teams was fielding and Jasprit Bumrah." pic.twitter.com/JPz9nlDDtJ
India Post Highest T20 World Cup Knockout Total
England skipper Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bowl first, but India posted a total of 253/7. This is the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Sanju Samson played a sensational knock of 89 off just 42 balls, smashing eight fours and seven sixes.
Ishan Kishan (39), Shivam Dube (43), and Hardik Pandya (27) helped India cross the 250-run mark. Will Jacks and Adil Rashid picked up two wickets each. Jofra Archer conceded 61 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Jacob Bethell fought valiantly for England and smashed a blistering century. Bethell scored 105 off 48 balls, including eight boundaries and seven sixes. However, Jasprit Bumrah's brilliant death bowling proved decisive as England finished on 246/7, falling just seven runs short.
