Mohammad Rizwan to captain Babar Azam from now on

The Pakistan team suffered a group stage exit during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). The Babar Azam-led team failed to register victories against the USA and India but managed wins against Canada and Ireland in the last two matches.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan couldn't make an impact with the bat, leading to Pakistan's failure to advance to the Super Eight stage. There's speculation that the PCB might initiate significant changes in the Pakistan T20 team, possibly dropping Azam and Rizwan from the squad due to their underperformance.

Vancouver Knights Have Chosen Their Captain For GT20 Season

The Vancouver Knights have appointed Mohammad Rizwan as their captain for GT20 Season 4, set to take place from July 25 to August 11. The franchise stated that Rizwan, known for his mighty batting skills and sharp wicketkeeping, is poised to lead the team to success in the upcoming T20 tournament.

“The Vancouver Knights have chosen their captain for GT20 Season 4: Sir Muhammad Rizwan. With his mighty batting skills and sharp wicketkeeping, he’s ready to lead our charge to victory. Prepare for battle, Knights!,” the franchise said in a statement.

Babar Azam will join the Vancouver Knights and play under Mohammad Rizwan's leadership in the Global T20 Canada 2024. The batting duo will be aiming to stage a comeback as the tournament presents a fresh opportunity. The Vancouver Knights were champions in the inaugural season of the league in 2018.

The decision to appoint Mohammad Rizwan as captain ahead of Babar Azam in the Global T20 Canada 2024 isn't unexpected. Babar has an inconsistent captaincy history, both for Pakistan and in the Pakistan Super League. In contrast, Mohammad Rizwan has established himself as a successful and effective captain.

Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi Among Pakistan Players To Play In Global T20 Canada 2024

Seven Pakistani players, including Asif Ali, Mohammad Amir, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Nawaz, will feature in the Global T20 Canada 2024. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz will represent the Toronto Nationals. Iftikhar Ahmed is set to join the Bangla Tigers Mississauga for the tournament.

The Winnipeg Hawks won the GT20 Canada title in 2019. The Montreal Tigers are the reigning champions of GT20 Canada, having won the trophy in 2023 after defeating the Knights in the final.
