Michael Clarke admits India and Pakistan are nowhere near in quality: India showed complete dominance over Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup group stage match. They defeated their arch-rivals by a margin of 61 runs, which is also the largest victory margin in terms of runs in a India vs Pakistan match. The Men in Blue extended their win record to 8-1 after the victory on Sunday.

After the game, several former cricketers and cricket pundits have expressed their views on the loss and India’s dominance. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke shared his views, stating that there has been a big difference between India and Pakistan in terms of cricket. He also mentioned that some cricketers are also featuring in their last World Cup game.

Michael Clarke said on the ‘Beyond23 Cricket Podcast’, “I think now, there is a distinct gap between the two teams. India have been ahead for a long time now and there is a significant gap. I don’t know what Pakistan do.”

“If you look through their list, there might be a few of their more senior players who have been good, but in regards to T20 cricket, this might be their final hurrah. They might look at the PSL and some young talent coming through there.”

Michael Clarke also believed that the drama of Pakistan boycotting the India vs Pakistan game affected the Pakistan cricket players. Pakistan decided not to take the field against their fiercest rival to showcase solidarity with Bangladesh, which was ousted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), after the Bangla Tigers refused to travel to India citing security reasons.

They then made a U-turn after formal requests from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket, and the Emirates Cricket Board as well.

Michael Clarke calls the PCB boycott a circus

He said, “I expected India to win. It has been a bit of a circus in regards to Pakistan playing the tournament but not playing the India game. So from a player’s perspective, it doesn’t help, but they were outperformed. India is a much better team than Pakistan in this format and have been for a while now.”

India yet again outplayed Pakistan

Coming to the match, India outperformed their opponents in every department. Ishan Kishan, who smacked the Men in Green bowlers all over the park, looked in a different touch and felt he was batting on a different wicket. As he played a blistering knock of 77 off 40 balls.

Salman Ali Agha's side was then bowled out for 114 runs, with Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakaravarthy scalping two wickets each. With Tilak Varma and Kuldeep Yadav picking up one each. The Men in Green lost the top order inside the first two overs with 13/3.

Usman Khan was the highest scorer with 44 runs, and the second highest was Shaheen Afridi. This showcased Pakistan’s batting collapse and the quality of cricket they play. Pakistan, after the loss, has turned its next game into a potential knockout against Namibia. If any upset happens, Pakistan will be knocked out of the T20 World Cup in two back-to-back editions.
