The Mumbai Cricket Association felicitated New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel for his historic 10-wicket innings haul in India‘s first innings of the recently-concluded Test at the Wankhede.
Ajaz Patel became only the third bowler in the history of Test cricket – after India’s Anil Kumble and England’s Jim Laker – to bag all 10 wickets in an innings.
The MCA President Dr Vijay Patil felicitated the left-arm spinner with the official scoresheet of India’s first innings. In return, Ajaz Patel handed over a ball & t-shirt for the MCA museum.

One of the greatest cricketing days in my life: Ajaz Patel
Ajaz Patel had taken 4 wickets on Day 1 before he returned to pick 6 wickets on Day 2. The left-arm spinner was born in Mumbai and had moved to New Zealand as an 8-year-old. 25 years later, he returned to the city of dreams to live his dream – and he did in a stunning fashion.
“To come back home to Mumbai and Wankhede and to be able to produce something like that is quite special. I am thankful to God for blessing me with such an occasion in my cricketing journey,” Ajaz Patel said after recording his incredible feat.
“I really really wanted to get my name on the honours board. I had no expectation of it going up in this fashion. It is very special and pretty cool. One of the first things I saw when I got off was my name is definitely going to be on the honours board now.
“Personally I think one of the greatest cricketing days in my life. And it will probably always be,” he added.
India completed the series win by a 1-0 margin with a thumping 372-run win in Mumbai.
