Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was mysteriously dropped from team India alleges the spinner

Karnataka-born right-arm leg spinner Varun Chakravarthy who rose into prominence very quickly owing to his impressive performances for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, has come up with a revelation of his own that he was deliberately left out of the Indian squad after he featured for the Men in Blue during the ICC T20I World Cup 2021 in UAE.
The tournament was slated to take place in India, however, due to the growing scare of COVID-19 back then, the T20 World Cup was shifted to the Middle East. While the team management gave Varun Chakravarthy a chance to replicate his IPL performances in the major cricketing event, the Virat Kohli-led side bowed out from the group stages itself.
India lost by 10 wickets in their opening T20 WC clash against arch-rivals Pakistan before enduring another loss to the hands of Kane Williamson’s New Zealand by 8 wickets and then victories against Afghanistan, Namibia, and Scotland meant nothing as the Kiwis and Pakistanis proceeded to the knockout rounds.
While the entire team’s performance was extremely poor as a collective, the most disappointing one was of Varun Chakravarthy who was included in the team with a lot of promise that his leg spin would prove to be mysterious for opposing batting units but he turned out to be a baggage for the Indian team.
Chakravarthy was coming on the back of a very good season in the IPL, racking up 18 wickets in 17 outings for the KKR and he was also given some valuable game time before the WC during India’s tour of Sri Lanka. But even then, the Tamil Nadu spinner accounted for just 2 wickets across the 3-match T20I series before being included in the WC squad at the expense of Yuzvendra Chahal.
Following a T20 WC campaign to forget, Varun Chakravarthy was never seen again in national colors, and his performance in the richest cricketing league which gave him prominence also dipped drastically. In the 2022 season, he could collect only 6 wickets from 11 games and he blames the Indian team management for that.
“IPL 2022 was not a great season because what happened in 2021 after the WC stuck within me and I was very desperate to be back in the Indian side. So I wanted to prove everyone. I was being very desperate. I started changing many things in my bowling, which finally affected my mental peace and I was not able to do my normal bowling either.” – Varun told CricXtasy about his IPL 2022.
“Someone Wanted To Sideline Me”, Varun Chakravarthy Speaks On Rumors Of His Lengthy Injury
Then Varun Chakravarthy revealed what we all wanted to know about for a long time – his absence from international cricket after the WC. The 32-year-old believes that someone from or outside of the team management had spread rumors about his lengthy injury lay-off which weren’t correct at all and feels that someone wanted him out of the team.
“It was very tough because right after I finished the World Cup, it was not a big injury, it was a very small injury. It just took me two or three weeks to be back on track but I got sidelined and people kept giving me the excuse that I was injured. But I was not injured all that while. It was a rumor or someone just wanted to spread this news about me so that they could sideline me.” – Varun concluded.
