Bangladesh National Cricket Team skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto opened up about the loss his team suffered in the 1st T20I against India National Cricket Team. He said that his players don't know how to score 180 runs as they play on 140-150 tracks at home.
Najmul Hossain Shanto didn't have a great day as a captain of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the first T20I against India National Cricket Team. The visitors suffered a thrashing 7-wicket loss in the first game at New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior.
Bangladesh got all out for 127
Bangladesh batters were one of the main reasons why they suffered a disappointing loss. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side couldn't get going with the bat as they lost wickets at regular intervals right from the start and no batter could set the stage on fire.
After a few early wickets, skipper Shanto (27) tried to get going, but he perished after that start. In the end, only Mehidy Hasan Miraz (35*) was the lone performer for his team as Bangladesh got all out for 127, which at one moment didn't even seem possible.
We play on 140-150 wickets at home. Our batters don't know how to score 180 runs - Najmul Hossain Shanto
Skipper Shanto claimed that they have the ability to improve. He admitted that they have playing well in patches but said that they need to make some changes. He stressed that they play at slow wickets at home and also they don't have good skills and mentality. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
"We have the ability, but we have room for improvement in our skills. We have been batting in this way for the last ten years. Sometimes we do well. We have to make some changes, perhaps where we practice back home.
"We play on 140-150 wickets at home. Our batters don't know how to score 180 runs. I won't blame just the wickets, but we have to consider skills and mentality."
I think the batting unit didn't do well today - Najmul Hossain Shanto
Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted that they played bad cricket and also claimed that they haven't done well in this format for a long time. He said that they aren't a bad team, but they didn't do well in the first T20I.
Najmul Hossain Shanto added that although they want to take an aggressive approach sometimes they need to be cautious with their approach. He added:
"I wouldn't say we played badly. We are a better team than this. We haven't done well in this format for a long time, but I don't believe we are such a bad team. I don't want to talk about any individual player. I think the batting unit didn't do well today.
"There will be aggression in the way we approach our scoring, but sometimes we have to select the balls correctly. We will think about it, but we can't rush in changing our approach."
