Never Had Any Doubt About Him Making It Big - MSK Prasad On Shaik Rasheed
Former Indian cricketer and chief selector, MSK Prasad praised the 17-year-old Shaik Rasheed, after his 94-run knock in the semifinal of the U-19 World Cup against Australia.
Rasheed combined with the captain, Yash Dhull, who helped himself to a century, and stitched a huge 204-run partnership for the third wicket which helped India set a total of 290 on the board.
It was far too much for the Aussies, who folded up for 194, sending India to the final for a record-extending eighth time. Speaking about Rasheed, Prasad had special words of praise for the youngster.
“From the day I saw him, I never had any doubt about him making it big. He has all the qualities of a wonderful, all-around cricketer — has great passion for the game and is extremely hard-working,” Prasad told The Hindu.
“No surprise when Rasheed got selected for World Cup” – MSK Prasad
Prasad also said that Rasheed was attending the academy under the mentor, Kinjal Suratwala, where he developed his game and it was only a matter of time before he made it to the U-19 squad.
“That was possible because of our ACA Secretary then Dr. G. Gangaraju and the Academy mentor Kinjal Suratwala. In fact, to our delight, Rasheed started scoring consistently in all the age groups he played in the ACA League. So, it was no surprise for all of us when Rasheed got selected in India U-19 based on his consistent performances in domestic cricket,” Prasad added.
India will face England in the final, who are also undefeated in the tournament.
