India National Cricket Team are currently locking horns with Zimbabwe National Cricket in the five-match T20I series. After the two enthralling games, the third match between the teams is underway at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Wednesday (10th July).
The ongoing series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team marks a new era in T20I cricket for India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has given opportunities to young players in the series with Shubman Gill being the leader of the team in the tour.
But one thing that has kept many wondering is who is the vice-captain of the India National Cricket Team in the ongoing Zimbabwe series. The Men in Blue had no deputy of Shubman Gill in the first two games but the role has been given for the last three games.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson is the vice-captain of the India National Cricket Team in the ongoing Zimbabwe series. The right-hander wasn't part of the team for the first two games as he was with the senior team, who won the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados last month.
Sanju Samson walked straight into the XI for the third game. He replaced Dhurv Jurel in the team and also has been designated with the role of vice-captain. The keeper-batter didn't get to play a single game in the T20 World Cup 2024 but now would be keen to make an impact with the bat in the ongoing series.
Sanju Samson has a decent amount of captaincy experience. The keeper-batter has been leading Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He has done a great job as the leader of the franchise as the franchise has been one of the top teams in the last few years.
Sanju Samson since the last few series has been a key member of the India National Cricket Team. The keeper-batter has been one of the consistent batters in the Indian team and would be looking to continue his golden touch with the bat in the series against Zimbabwe. The series between the teams is currently leveled at 1-1.
India make four changes to their playing XI in the third match against Zimbabwe
India National Cricket Team has made four changes to their playing 11 in the third game. The World Cup winners in Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube have walked into the Team in place of Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Sai Sudharsan. Apart from that Khaleel Ahmed also has been added in place of Avesh Khan.
India didn't have a great start to the series as they lost the first match by 13 runs but after that, they came up with a dominating performance in the second game. They produced a brutal batting display and put the opposition under pressure.
Abhishek Sharma slammed a century while Ruturaj Gaikwad (77*) and Rinku Singh (48*) made vital contributions as India ended with a total of 234 runs and then went on to win the game by 100 runs.
