Pakistan Cricketers Hammad Azam, Ehsan Adil Announce International Retirements To Participate In Major League Cricket (MLC)

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the international retirements of fast bowler Ehsan Adil and all-rounder Hammad Azam on July 9, Sunday. Reportedly, the duo will feature in the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC).

Azam and Adil will be playing for MI New York, which is owned by the owners of IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians. Hammad, who started his cricketing career in Pakistan, shifted to the USA due to the lack of opportunities in his home country. He spoke about his maiden season in the MLC and playing for the New York side.

Happy To Be A Part Of MI New York In MLC: Hammad Azam

“This is the biggest franchise in the world, I can say, and I am really happy to be a part of it. I was quiet but feeling happy now. We have been looking towards this franchise for the last 12 to 13 years. It was the first franchise when I started playing back then, so of course, all the boys and I are quite excited” said Hammad Azam.

Ehsan made his Test debut in February 2013 in Centurion against South Africa and played two more Tests and six One-Day Internationals till 2015, taking five and four wickets in the two formats, respectively.

Both the cricketers were former U-19 players for Pakistan. Ehsan Adil played in the 2010 edition of the U-19 World Cup while Azam played in the 2012 edition in Australia.

Six Teams To Participate In Major League Cricket

Meanwhile, the Major League Cricket is an upcoming tournament in the US. The league is approved by USA Cricket and shall start on July 13, 2023, with six teams participating in major cities under the banner of a single-entity model.

The tournament has teams from Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai’s IPL franchise named as Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, and Texas Super Kings respectively.
