Pat Cummins announces participation in all 5 Ashes Tests, warns England

Australian veteran speedster and WTC-winning captain, Pat Cummins, has been out of action for a long time owing to a back injury sustained during the West Indies Test tour. However, Cummins is eyeing a return in the Ashes and is aiming to feature in all 5 games in the series.
The much-anticipated Ashes Test series, considered one of the biggest rivalries in Test cricket, will be played between England and Australia. The 2025-26 edition of the series between the two nations will be hosted by Australia and is scheduled to start on the 21st of November.
Pat Cummins is likely to miss the warm-up game ahead of the Ashes
Australian skipper Pat Cummins has been out of action since his injury on the West Indies tour ruled him out of the game. Cummins is one of the most essential limbs in the Australian pace trio alongside fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
Skipper Pat Cummins led Australia to two World Test Championship finals, as he lifted the trophy for the first time in 2023 and ended up as the runner-up in the next edition, which was in 2025.
As per some recent reports from Cricket.com.au, the Australian skipper is not deemed 100% fit and is likely to miss the warm-up game before the start of the Ashes. However, he is likely to join the Australian squad in the lead-up to work with the medical staff.
Pat Cummins is aiming to play all 5 games against the Ashes
Pat Cummins has been missing from the Australian dugout ever since the West Indies tour, as he last played for the side in July. The skipper, who has not yet decided on a return date, has expressed his desire to feature in all 5 matches of the Ashes.
“The aim is five. Every summer, you kind of aim for five," Cummins said. "It’s honestly too far out to say, but the aim at the moment is to try and be ready for all of it," he added.
Pat Cummins has cited that the long gap between the scheduled matches as the reason why he can feature across all games in the Ashes.
“This one might be a little bit different because you’re coming in a little bit different than other ones. But the starting aim is for five. Once we get closer, we’re probably going to chat through potentially more realistic situations," he remarked.
“Most years, at least one of the bowlers normally goes down," remarked Cummins
The Aussie skipper pointed out that the fact was the clear eight-day gaps between the first three tests of the series are one of the main reasons why backing up may not be a major issue. However, he has also dropped an update that Australia might not stick with the same attack throughout the series.

“Obviously, conditions change, but I think that you just need that fresh bowler, guys that can come in and bowl 40 overs without really blinking in a Test match."
