The Tweet by Australia’s newly appointed Test captain Pat Cummins regarding his donation towards the COVID-19 relief efforts in India was the most “Retweeted Tweet in India in 2021”.

Cummins was recently appointed as the new captain of Australia Men’s Test team after Tim Paine decided to step down from captaincy following his involvement in a sexting scandal. Cummins is currently leading the team in the Ashes 2021-22 and in his debut as a Test captain he bagged a 5-wicket haul in the Gabba Test.

Meanwhile, the Tweet by Pat Cummins regarding his donation towards Covid-19 relief in India has been retweeted 114,000 times to date and it was also the most Quote Tweeted this year (21,900). Twitter in an official statement stated:

“As the second COVID-19 wave hit India, people from across the world came forward to support the country. Among them was Australian cricketer Pat Cummins, who donated towards COVID relief in India, and took to Twitter to encourage others to do the same. The generosity of the Tweet received gratitude from people all over the country, making this the most Retweeted Tweet in India in 2021.”

Notably, this data by Twitter has been taken for the period between January 1 – November 15, 2021.

India’s Test captain Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were blessed with a daughter earlier this year and the Tweet by Kohli announcing the arrival of their daughter has become the ‘Most Liked Tweet’ of 2021 (538,200 likes).

Also, In 2020 Virat Kohli’s Tweet announcing the pregnancy of Anushka Sharma became the ‘Most Liked Tweet of 2020′.

Meanwhile, in the sports category, Virat Kohli’s Tweet regarding MS Dhoni’s match-winning knock in the Qualifier 1 during the IPL 2021 was the most retweeted in sports this year and it was retweeted 91,600 times and was liked 529,500 times and became the most liked Tweet in sports in 2021.
