Former England cricketer Paul Collingwood will be travelling with England as their interim coach to the West Indies. ECB is in search of their next coach after the Ashes debacle which might see Chris Silverwood axed from his position. The side play three Tests in March against West Indies between March 8-28. They previously lost the T20I series 3-2.

Paul Collingwood meanwhile is on a vacation in Barbados with his daughters after the T20I series loss. The former England skipper was also upgraded from his position of Assistant Coach as the Andrew Strauss-led ECB panel is looking for a complete overhaul in its coaching staff. Strauss has also hinted at split coaching and giving Collingwood the responsibilities of the white-ball sides.

Along with Collingwood, England are also eyeing one among Justin Langer of Gary Kirsten as coach of the Test side. Langer has resigned as Australia’s head coach following his fallout with Cricket Australia. Langer was offered a short-term role which he did not accept and resigned from his position.

Gary Kirsten is the other man for the role. He was the coach of the Indian cricket team when they won the 2011 World Cup. He has a good reputation across world cricket as a successful coach. Since then he has coached the South African national cricket team, the Delhi and the RCB franchise in the IPL. He has recently signed as the mentor of the Ahmedabad franchise ahead of IPL 2022 mega auctions.

Meanwhile, as far as Collingwood’s credentials are concerned, he led England to their maiden ICC T20 World Cup title in 2010. A series win against the West Indies in the Test series can also help Collingwood stake a claim at being the coach of the Test side as well. England’s Managing Director Ashley Giles has also stepped down from his position following the Ashes series loss.
