Paul Collingwood Opens Up On The Prospect Of Becoming Full-time England Head Coach

Former England batsman Paul Collingwood has opened up on the prospect of becoming full-time head coach of the England National Cricket Team.

Paul Collingwood was named as interim head coach of the England National Cricket Team after the departure of Chris Silverwood following the Ashes 2021-22 series against Australia.

Notably, Joe Root-led England had performed terribly in the Ashes 2021-22 series and lost the marquee series by 0-4.

Meanwhile, Paul Collingwood, speaking to Sky Sports said that he would never say never to the prospect of becoming the full-time head coach of the England team but currently his main focus is on rebuilding England in the upcoming series against the West Indies.

I would never say never, but my main focus right now is these next four weeks, If we can get that right, hopefully, we can get performances out on the park and we can rebuild.,” Collingwood said, speaking to Sky Sports.

The 45-year-old said that the head job is amazing and being able to help cricketers feels special. He said:

It is an amazing job. To be coach and to try to help these guys get to where they need to be feels special as well. I have had a little bit of experience in the past couple of years of taking over on an interim basis, and obviously, I have done the T20s recently.”

Paul Collingwood added that he doesn’t have a lot of coaching experience in his bag but he has a passion to make a difference. He asserted:

“I haven’t got the experience behind us. I haven’t done county cricket or anything like that, but I have certainly got the passion to try to make a difference. I try to bring people closer together, build teams, build relationships.”

Collingwood will participate in his first Test match as interim head coach on March 8 in Antigua against the West Indies. Notably, the series consists of three Test matches. Also, England recently lost the T20I series against West Indies by 3-2.
