Punjab Kings (PBKS) released the least number of players among all the players heading into the IPL 2024 auction. The franchise retained 17 players and released seven. They have 8 available slots including two overseas slots as well.
PBKS looks like one of the most sorted among all the teams. They have been able to retain almost all of the core that they formed after the IPL 2023 auction. Among the notable players they released was big-hitter Shahrukh Khan and Sri Lankan T20I specialist Bhanuka Rajapaksa.
Among the retained players from PBKS was Sam Curran who was the costliest players in the last auction. Punjab has time and again roped in players at high prices and then has not managed to get the best out of that particular player.
Heading into this auction, they need a reputed spinner and an Indian pacer to back up Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh. Rahul Chahar was the regular spinner in the side last season and had too much to do. The Kings need to rope in an experienced spinner. They do have part-timers but having a specialist spinner would make things easier.

Shikhar Dhawan is expected to lead the side in IPL 2024. He was one of the heavy run-scorers in the IPL title he played For SRH and then DC. Coming to PBKS, he has not scored as consistently as he would have liked. He will need the rest of the bowlers to back him up.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar rejoined the franchise as Head Of Cricket Development. He was earlier associated with the franchise from 2014 to 2016 when the franchise performed at their best. Bangar, who was the head coach of the side in 2015 and 2016, will work along with the current head coach Trevor Bayliss.
