A fresh legal storm has erupted around Prithvi Shaw as the Indian cricketer has finally broken his silence on a molestation complaint filed against him by social media influencer Sapna Gill. In a strongly worded response submitted to a Mumbai court, Prithvi Shaw has described the case as false, hurtful, and driven by personal revenge and publicity motives.
As reported by the Times of India, in a detailed written response submitted to a Mumbai court on Tuesday, the out-of-favor Indian batter rejected all allegations made against him and claimed the complaint was a deliberate attempt to damage his image and gain public attention.
Prithvi Shaw finally responds in court, calls the molestation case false and revenge-driven
Shaw has told the Mumbai court that the complaint has caused serious damage to his reputation and mental peace. The Mumbai batter said that the allegations are not only baseless but were instead filed to settle scores following an earlier criminal case registered against Gill in 2023.
This dispute is related to an incident that occurred in February 2023 at a suburban hotel in Mumbai. Gill was arrested after she was accused of physically attacking Shaw during the argument that reportedly began over taking selfies. The case was registered against her.
However, Gill managed to secure the bail. Following her release, the matter took a new turn. Gill approached the Andheri Airport police station and filed a complaint accusing Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav, and others of molestation and outraging her modesty.
Police refuse FIR, Mumbai Court orders fresh probe in Prithvi Shaw case
After examining the details, the police refused to register an FIR, stating that no offense was made out based on the available facts. She was not convinced by the decision. Later, Gill moved to a magistrate’s court and requested directions to the police to register an FIR.
The police stood by their earlier assessment even before the court. After hearing both sides, the magistrate ordered a fresh inquiry under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to check whether there was enough ground to proceed further.
Gill then challenged this order by filing a revision petition before a sessions court in April 2024 through her lawyer, Ali Kaashif Khan. Until now, Shaw had not filed a formal response in the matter.
Prithvi Shaw denies molestation charges, accuses influencer of revenge
In his reply submitted this week, Prithvi Shaw accused Gill of misusing legal provisions and turning the issue into a personal war. He claimed that this complaint was filed solely to take revenge for the previous FIR registered against her.
Shaw also alleged that the case was meant to extract money, gain publicity, and put pressure on him by dragging his name into a serious controversy, which has deeply affected him both personally and professionally.
However, Gill’s side has strongly rejected Shaw’s claims. Her lawyer has argued that Shaw’s response does not provide any clear evidence or concrete reason to disprove the allegations made in the complaint. Now, the court has scheduled the next hearing for March 31.
Meanwhile, yesterday, at the IPL 2026 mini auction, Shaw was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 75 lakh and will make his comeback in the league in the next season.
