Former Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre opened up about Prithvi Shaw getting unsold during the IPL 2025 auction. Pravin Amre said that Prithvi Shaw should consider this snub as a wake-up call, adding that the youngster could not handle fame and money.

Shaw was unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah despite opting for a base price of Rs 75 lakh. The opening batter failed to attract any bids from franchises. It’s worth noting that he was released by Delhi Capitals, and going unsold in the mega auction is a low point in his cricketing career.

It's So Disappointing To See That - Pravin Amre

In an interview with the Times of India, Pravin Amre expressed disappointment over the decline in Prithvi Shaw's career, adding that fame and money have contributed to his indiscipline. Amre acknowledged that Shaw has immense talent but emphasized that talent alone is not enough to succeed.

"It's so disappointing to see that a talent like him is going in reverse direction... Even today, he can hit a 30-ball fifty in the IPL. Maybe he couldn't handle the glamour and money, the side-effects of the IPL. His example can be a case study in Indian cricket... Talent alone can't take you to the top. The three Ds - discipline, determination, and dedication - are important," Amre said.

Hope He Takes This IPL Auction Snub Positively - Pravin Amre

Pravin Amre drew a comparison between Prithvi Shaw and former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, who struggled with fame and lost his way. Amre raised concern that Shaw could follow the same path if he didn't change his approach. He stated that Shaw is still young and can rebuild his career.

"Three years back, I gave him Vinod Kambli's example. I've seen Kambli's downfall from close quarters. It's not easy to teach certain things to this generation. Thanks to being retained by DC, Prithvi must have earned Rs 30-40 crore by the time he was 23. Will even an IIM graduate get that type of money? When you earn so much at such a young age, you tend to lose focus," Amre said.

"I hope he takes this IPL auction snub positively. It's an eye-opener for him. He's still got age on his side. He's just 25," the former batter added.

Prithvi Shaw's Record in the Indian Premier League

Prithvi Shaw started his IPL career in 2018 when he was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.20 crore. The batter was retained for Rs 7.50 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. After being released by the Capitals, Shaw entered the IPL 2025 auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakh but went unsold.

Shaw has played 79 IPL matches, scoring 1,892 runs at an average of 23.95 and a strike rate of 47.47, with a best score of 99 runs. He has had underwhelming performances in recent seasons, with only 106 runs in 2023 and 198 runs in 2024. His best performance came in 2021 when he scored 479 runs.
