Ravichandran Ashwin Becomes First Ever Bowler To Pick 100 Wickets In The History Of ICC World Test Championship (WTC)

Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved yet another major milestone and has become the first bowler in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC) to bag 100 wickets.
The 35-year-old achieved this sensational landmark in the second match of the two-match Test series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where India registered a dominant 238 runs victory.

Ashwin finished as the highest wicket-taker in the series as he picked up 12 wickets in 4 innings against Sri Lanka in Mohali and Bengaluru Test games. He picked his wickets at an average of 15.08, an economy of 2.61, and a strike rate of 34.6, with his best bowling figures in an innings being 4/47.
Also, Ashwin, during the pink-ball Test match against Sri Lanka, went past legendary pacer Dale Steyn to become the 8th highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket.
Now, Ravichandran Ashwin has 442 wickets in 86 Tests and he is only behind the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708), James Anderson (640*), Anil Kumble (619), Glenn McGrath (563), Stuart Broad (537) and Courtney Walsh (519). Among the active players, he is just behind England pacers Anderson and Broad.

The 35-year-old Ashwin finished as the highest wicket-taker in the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with 71 wickets under his belt.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle Ravichandran Ashwin, who is the second-highest Indian wicket-taker in Test cricket, has already bagged 29 wickets to complete the century of WTC wickets.
Ashwin has picked his 100 World Test Championship wickets in just 21 games at an average of 19.66, an economy of 2.50, and a strike rate of 47.1, including 4 five-wicket hauls.
