The Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja created another record as they went past Anil Kumble’s and Harbhajan Singh’s pair to become the most successful Test bowling duo for India during the first Test against England at Hyderabad on Thursday. It is always said that bowlers hunt in pairs and the Ashwin-Jadeja duo have proved the statement correct.

The pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja got their wicket number 504 together, surpassing the previous record for India which was held by Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, who had managed 501 wickets in 54 matches. The current record for the most wickets taken by a bowling pair belongs to England pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad. The deadly duo have taken an impressive 1039 wickets in 138 Test matches. Among the currently active pairs, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon are at the top with 643 wickets in 81 Tests.

England won the toss and chose to bat first with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett giving an aggressive start to the England innings. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struggled to make an early impact against the Bazball as Crawley and Duckett cruised past 50 in no time. However, India managed to put a break to England’s aggressive start by introducing spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja into the attack.

England raced to the 50-run mark in just the 11th over, with Ben Duckett sweeping Jadeja for a four in his second over. Unfortunately, Duckett’s quickfire innings came to an end in the next over when Ashwin dismissed him LBW. Ben Duckett, who scored 35 runs off 39 balls, opted for a DRS review, but replays showed umpires call at the top of the leg stump and Duckett had to depart.

Ravichandran Ashwin And Ravindra Jadeja Took Three Wickets In The First Session

A few moments later, Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Ollie Pope in the 15th over, who was caught by skipper Rohit Sharma for 1 off 11 balls. Ollie Pope was caught pushing hard at a tossed-up ball by Jadeja and skipper Rohit took a clean catch in the slips. Right in the next over, Zak Crawley was dismissed for just 20 off 40 deliveries as he chipped the ball to mid-off where Siraj took the catch to give Ravichandran Ashwin his 492nd wicket of his Test career. Ravichandran Ashwin is just eight wickets away from his 500th Test wicket.

Indian spinners have been dominant against the Bazball as the Indian conditions are putting the English aggression on the back foot. England is batting at their lowest run rate since Brendon McCullum took over the coach’s responsibility. Rohit Sharma and Ben Stokes both are undefeated as skippers in the Test series and India has won 16 consecutive home series since their loss against England in 2012. England on the other hand has not lost any Test series since the introduction of Bazball.

India and England are playing the first Test in Hyderabad and the ball has started to spin right from the first day. After the second session, England is 215/8 with skipper Ben Stokes and Mark Wood on the crease. Ben Stokes is batting at 43 and is the leading scorer for England in the first innings. The spinners have taken seven out of eight wickets as of now with one coming to Jasprit Bumrah
