The Rohit Sharma-led team is scheduled to take on Australia in the final match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. Team India might be tempted to include Ravichandran Ashwin in spin-friendly conditions.
The Indian cricket team is in exceptional form both in batting and bowling, having won all 10 matches leading up to the final. On the other hand, Australia faced initial setbacks with two losses, but secured victories in the remaining eight matches of the mega tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin Puts In Extra Efforts During Net Session
During the optional training session in Ahmedabad on Friday, Ravichandran Ashwin had both a bowling and batting session. While the combination for the final seems finalized, Ashwin’s impressive practice session has sparked speculation about his inclusion.
Ashwin, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan, and Prasidh Krishna were present at the nets. The 37-year-old showcased his various bowling skills, including some leg breaks. He also had a batting session under the keen observation of head coach Rahul Dravid.
The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer could replace Mohammad Siraj if the team management wants to add an off-spinner to counter Australia’s left-handed openers. Siraj has had inconsistent performances in the tournament, taking 13 wickets in 10 games at an average of 32.62.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s Selection Will Depend On Pitch – Madan Lal
“Ravichandran Ashwin’s selection will depend on if the pitch will offer spin. But I do not think India will opt to change the winning combination in the final against Australia,” Madan Lal said.
“Australia did not look comfortable at all playing spin against South Africa and they will not be comfortable playing Kuldeep Yadav either. I believe you will get a great track to bat on in Ahmedabad,” he added.
India Squad: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Ravichandran Ashwin
