In the latest news, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the upcoming home Test series against England. On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the first two Test matches in Chennai which will commence on 5th February.

Ravindra Jadeja was not named in the squad as he has undergone surgery on his dislocated left thumb. The left-hander injured his thumb as he copped a blow from a bouncer in the third Test in Sydney against Australia and consequently missed the fourth game in Brisbane.

According to a report in Indian Express, Ravindra Jadeja will need six weeks to recover after undergoing surgery, making him unavailable for the last two Tests in Ahmedabad as well.

Jadeja scored 85 runs and picked 7 wickets in the couple of Tests he played in Australia. A call will be taken later on Jadeja for the 5-match T20I series and 3-match ODI series which will follow the Test series.

The selectors have given the nod to Axar Patel over Shahbaz Nadeem to replace Jadeja in the squad. Axar’s batting superiority over Nadeem would have tempted the selectors to go with the Gujarat all-rounder. Patel averages 35.42 with the bat and 27.38 with the ball in 39 First-Class matches.
