On Tuesday, September 24, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Rest of India squad for Irani Cup 2024, with wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel and left-arm pacer Yash Dayal being picked in the team.

The prestigious Irani Cup first-class cricket tournament, which was established in 1959, is held between the Ranji Trophy winners and a Rest of India team.

Irani Cup's first edition was played in the 1959-60 season, and it has since become an integral part of the Indian domestic cricket calendar with the Rest of India teams delivering dominant performances in the last two editions of the competition.

In the 2022 Irani Cup, the Rest of India hammered the Madhya Pradesh team by 238 runs, and in the 2023 clash, they crushed Saurashtra by 175 runs.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Irani Cup clash will be played between ROI and Mumbai at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow from 1st to 5th October 2024.

The domestic heavyweights Mumbai won the recent Ranji Trophy 2024 in March at the Wankhede Stadium by beating Vidarbha by 169 runs to win their 42nd Ranji title. Musheer Khan was awarded Player of the Match in the final for his all-round heroics (136 & 2/48).

Ruturaj Gaikwad To Lead Rest Of India Squad In Irani Cup 2024

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as the captain of the Rest of India squad after recently leading India C in the Duleep Trophy. Also, the squad features star players Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is the vice-captain, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Ishan Kishan, who is now back in the scheme of things.

Pacers Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, along with spinners Rahul Chahar and Manav Suthar, have also been picked for the team.

However, the two notable inclusion in the squad have been Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal. The duo are also part of the India squad for the second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, and their participation in the Irani Cup is subject to their participation in the Kanpur Test.

"Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been selected in the Rest of India squad and their participation is subject to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur. The 2nd Test will begin from 27th September."

Also, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an update on the availability of Sarfaraz Khan for the Irani Cup, stating that the batter will be released from the squad for the Irani Cup if he doesn't participate in the second Test.

"Sarfaraz Khan who has been retained in the Team India squad for the 2nd Test, will be released to represent the Mumbai team subject to him not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur."
