India National Cricket Team are among the teams that are fighting for the spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. The summit clash will be played at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London in June next year and will also be having a Reserve day.

The road for the India National Cricket Team to the final of the ICC World Test Championship isn't easy. They will need humongous effort if they have to book the ticket for Lord's. It's fair to say that they have only themselves to blame for being in a tough situation.

India were one of the strong favorites to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship

Two months back, India were one of the strong favourites to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship. After the series win against Bangladesh, they were at the top of the table, but things changed drastically for them as they then faced a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand at home.

This dented their chances of reaching the final of the ICC World Test Championship, but it didn't completely rule them out. India came up with a massive effort in the first game of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as they beat Australia by 295 runs to keep them in the hunt.

South Africa have almost booked their spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championship

But after that, in the next game, India were at the receiving end of the 10-wicket thrashing at the hands of Australia. Both the teams are fighting up for the one spot with South Africa National Cricket Team almost locking their place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

India and Australia are currently locking horns with each other in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Gabba in Brisbane, but the opening day of the game was washed out due to rain, with only 13.2 overs being possible.

The forecast for the rest of the game also doesn't look great. There is rain predicted throughout the match, and there are even chances that the entire game might get washed out. If that happens, the match will end in a draw, and the five-match series between the teams will stay level at 1-1.

India qualification scenario if Gabba Test gets washed out

If the game ends in a draw, it will have a massive hit on India's qualification for the final of the ICC World Test Championship. To make it into the summit clash, the Rohit Sharma-led side will need to win both their remaining two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. If they do this, it will ensure them direct qualification.

If the Gabba game ends in a draw and India win the series by the margin of 2-1, winning one of the remaining two games. Then the Rohit Sharma-led side would need a favor from Sri Lanka. They would want the island nation to win at least one of the two Test matches against Australia.

India cannot afford to lose a single game in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. If they suffer defeat in one of the two remaining games after Gabba, then it would almost mean curtains. In this scenario, for them to qualify, they would want Pakistan to win their two-match series against South Africa in January by a margin of 2-0 or for Sri Lanka to defeat Australia by a margin of 2-0.
