Ricky Ponting drops shocking BGT 2024-25 prediction, backs Australia to win 3-1 despite India’s recent dominance

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting made his predictions for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The cricketer-turned-commentator believes that Australia National Cricket Team will win the five-match Test series by the margin of 3-1.

India National Cricket Team are all set to tour Australia for the five-match Test series. Although the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is starting in November, the excitement has already taken its toll on the fans and even players of both the teams have expressed their excitement for the same.

Both India and Australia have engaged in some of the intense battles. The Rohit Sharma-led side have been extremely brilliant on their last two tours to Australia. They have won two back-to-back series but the special one came in 2020-21 as despite all the hardships, they managed to win.

This will also be the first time that India and Australia will be facing each other in the five-match Test series. The series will also be part of the ICC World Test Championship and with a spot for the final on the line, it will be an enthralling series to watch.

Ricky Ponting while talking about the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, didn't hesitate in saying that it will be a competitive series. But the legend of the game is of the opinion that Australia will have a point to prove because of the previous two series' losses.

Ricky Ponting also mentioned that two teams playing five matches is an important thing. He stressed that with both sides playing 5 games, there are fewer chances for drawn games. Speaking to ICC, he explained:

"It's going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia's got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what's happened the last the last two series here.

"We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone's excited by that and I don't know if there'd be too many drawn games."

Ricky Ponting further backed Australia to win the series. Considering all the weather conditions and draw, he predicted Pat Cummins-led side to win the five-match Test series against India National Cricket Team by the margin of 3-1. He explained:

"I'm going to tip Australia to win and I'm never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I'm going to say 3-1 to Australia," said Ricky Ponting.

The first match will be played at Optus Stadium in Perth from 22nd November. The second game between India and Australia will be a day and night fixture that will be played in Adelaide from 6th December.

The third Test is scheduled to take place at Gabba in Brisbane from 14th December followed by the Boxing-Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from 26th December. The last match will be played in Sydney from 3rd January.
