Australia National Cricket Team great Ricky Ponting made a massive statement as he named the GOAT of cricket. The Punjab Kings head coach called Jacques Kallis the greatest player, highlighting his contributions with the bat and ball throughout his career across the formats.
Jacques Kallis, no doubt, is the best all-rounder to have played the game of cricket. He ended his career amongst the leading run-getters as well as leading wicket-takers in the game, which speaks volumes about what kind of impact he had made.
"I personally think Shane Warne is the greatest to have played - Adam Gilchrist disagrees with Ricky Ponting
However, Adam Gilchrist disagreed with Ricky Ponting, saying that although Jacques Kallis has great numbers, according to him Shane Warne is the greatest. He pointed out how the late great Warne, despite being in tough circumstances, managed to achieve such great things.
"I understand where Ricky is coming from-statistically, the runs, wickets, and catches-but there is more to it than just numbers," Gilchrist told news.com.au. "I personally think Shane Warne is the greatest to have played."
"For Warnie to achieve what he did, especially living the way he did and still managing to perform at that level, it shows he was a true champion," Gilchrist added. "Beyond his bowling, he was also an incredible batsman."

Adam Gilchrist also lauded Shane Warne for his contributions with the bat, saying that the spinner wasn't even aware of his batting talent. He added that considering all the aspects, the leg-spinner is No.1 for him.
"He just left way too many runs out there when he played. I don't even think he knew his batting talent. When it comes down to pure cricketing genius-batting, bowling, catching, and tactical brilliance-Warnie is No. 1 for me."
Shane Warne ended his carrer with 708 wickets in Tests, 293 wickets in ODIs. He also made vital contributions for the team with bat, scoring 3154 runs in Tests and 7541 runs in ODIs.
"It'll be interesting to see what excuse they come up with if Australia lifts the Champions Trophy - Adam Gilchrist on England's Barmy Army
Adam Gilchrist also criticized England's Barmy Army for their statement "Australia chooses weaker opponents to enhance their record". He said that it will be interesting to see what excuse they will come up with if Australia lifts the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
"It'll be interesting to see what excuse they come up with if Australia lifts the Champions Trophy at Lord's in June," he quipped. "I bet they will struggle with that one. I absolutely can't wait for that and the rivalry of the Ashes next year."
