Rinku Singh's fiancée arrested before India squad for Asia Cup 2025 announcement

The INDIA bloc’s high-voltage protest over alleged voter list manipulation led to the detention of several senior opposition leaders in New Delhi, but it was Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj, who is also the fiancée of Indian cricketer Rinku Singh, who stole the spotlight in the chaos.

Several leaders of the different political parties joined hands and began protesting over the Election Commission's “collusion” with the ruling party, the BJP, outside the Election Commission.

Apart from Rinku Singh’s to-be wife, Priya Saroj, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi, and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav were among those detained by Delhi Police during a fiery protest.

Amid the barricades, heated confrontations, and slogan-shouting, cameras caught a moment that went viral, where Priya Saroj was seen springing into action to save TMC MP Mitali Bag, who collapsed under the boiling heat and suffocating humidity in the national capital.

Saroj caught Mitali Bag before she could fall, called for a vehicle, and even tried to revive her with splashes of water. Later, TMC’s Sayoni Ghosh joined in to help, and soon Rahul Gandhi arrived to ensure Mitali was safely moved to a waiting car for medical assistance.

Moments later, Saroj was back into the action, chanting slogans shoulder-to-shoulder with Priyanka Gandhi and Dimple Yadav, before being detained by the police along with the rest of the MPs. Inside the police bus, the young Samajwadi Party MP’s voice could be heard above the crowd, leading chants against what the opposition calls the “death of fair democracy.”

The protest site was packed with politicians and party workers, waving placards, shouting slogans, and pressing against the police barricades. At one point, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was seen climbing over two barricades to join the march. Recently, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of working with the Election Commission to “steal” votes, citing alleged video evidence.

Rinku Singh faces backlash after fiancée Priya Saroj detained in protest

Meanwhile, after the video of Priya Saroj seen going to jail along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, some fans called on the BCCI to drop Rinku Singh from the Indian cricket team. Some fans suggested Rinku leave the game, as Priya’s involvement in political activities could affect his cricket career.

Recently, Priya Saroj gave a sweet surprise to Rinku Singh, who is currently busy preparing for both the Asia Cup 2025 and the UP T20 League. The Indian batter is part of the Meerut Mavericks squad in the UP T20 League 2025, and when he was practicing at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Noida, his fiancée arrived to meet him unexpectedly.

Notably, Rinku has so far played 33 T20Is and 2 ODIs for India after his remarkable IPL performances for the Kolkata Knight Riders. In T20Is, Rinku has scored 546 runs at a strike rate of 161.06, while he has 55 runs to his name in ODIs.
