A funny but heated moment unfolded on Day 4 when India’s stand-in captain Rishabh Pant scolded Kuldeep Yadav, who had been taking forever to start his overs against South Africa in the ongoing second and final Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Throughout the ongoing second and final Test, Kuldeep Yadav kept stretching the 60-second limit allowed between the end of one over and the start of the next. Before bowling the first delivery of the 48th over of the South African innings, Kuldeep wanted every fielder placed exactly where he imagined.

Rishabh Pant explodes at Kuldeep Yadav’s slow start, commentators can’t stop laughing

Rishabh Pant had been patient, but Kuldeep managed to frustrate him yet again. The Indian skipper wasn’t angry about the field adjustments, but he just wanted Kuldeep to bowl the first ball quickly and fix the rest later, because there’s no punishment once the over begins.

But the delay was risky. Teams are allowed two warnings for slow overstarts. After that, umpires can slap a five-run penalty. The warnings get reset every 80 overs, but Kuldeep kept sneaking right on the edge. This time, Pant couldn’t hold back as he shouted at Kuldeep, saying, “Pehli ball to daal den.”

Saba Karim slams Rishabh Pant for his reckless shot in Guwahati

Earlier, the former Indian selector Saba Karim slammed Rishabh Pant for his reckless shot selection after yet another poor outing in the ongoing second and final Test against South Africa. With India already struggling and missing regular captain Shubman Gill due to a neck injury, Pant was expected to bring calmness and control.

Instead, the left-handed batter lasted only long enough to score 7 runs before gifting his wicket at a crucial stage. Walking in after the tea break, Pant had the perfect chance to steady the innings. But just a few minutes later, he charged down the pitch looking for a big swing, completely misjudged the ball, and ended up faintly edging it to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

Karim was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo, “There’s no logical explanation for this. Perhaps for the first time in his Test career, even Rishabh Pant himself might struggle to justify that shot. It came right after tea, and as captain he is expected to shoulder responsibility. He has enough experience at this level to show the way by coping with pressure and taking the blows.”

India left hopeless as South Africa refuse to declare

On the other hand, India collapsed for just 201 runs in reply to South Africa’s massive 489, which showed how far they slipped in both discipline and execution. Now, the Proteas side has built a huge 466-run lead and still showed no hurry to declare.

With South Africa tightening their grip and batting on confidently, India now faces an almost impossible task to get back into the match in Guwahati. Currently, the touring side’s score reads 184/4 against India on Day 4 in the ongoing final Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
