Legendary West Indian cricketer-turned commentator Brian Lara has said that Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has matured quite a lot in the past four months and that he will do a good job as the captain of Delhi Capitals.

Rishabh Pant has been in the form of his life in the last 5-6 months. Hailed as an out-and-out match-winner since his initial days, Pant played a plethora of clutch knocks during the tour of Australia and in the home series against England to impinge his status as one of the superstars of the modern era.

Rishabh Pant was given the captaincy of Delhi Capitals after regular skipper Shreyas Iyer got ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

“Around 6 months of international cricket for him (Pant) one against Australia and here against England. Now he (Pant) is responsible for the captaincy because of injury,” Brian Lara said on Star Sports.

”Plus, he doesn’t have the services of (Anrich) Nortje, (Kagiso) Rabada, and Axar Patel. So, they are asking a lot of him. I think he has got a team that will support him which is most important. He has grown in the last 4 months and I think he will do a good job.” he added.

Rishabh Pant did not have the services of the likes of Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, and Axar Patel in his debut game as captain against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings.

While Nortje and Rabada were in isolation, Axar Patel was not available due to Covid-19. But despite that, a brilliant bowling effort by Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan and whirlwind knocks from Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw ensured that Rishabh Pant got off to a winning start as captain.
