Indian cricket team stars Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin have soared up the latest ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, following their spectacular performances in the first match of the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Ravichandran Ashwin played a key role in India’s commanding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai. Notably, the ongoing two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Rishabh Pant, known for his fearless batting, made a stunning comeback to the top-10 of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, making it to the sixth position after his gritty knocks of 39 and 109 in the first Test against Bangladesh.

After the limited-overs format, Rishabh Pant made it to the Indian Test side since his accident.

Rishabh Pant made a comeback to the Test arena with an explosive century in the second innings of the Chennai Test. That left Bangladesh’s bowlers helpless. Rishabh Pant's aggressive comeback not only delighted fans but also strengthened his position as one of India’s key matchwinners in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, India’s number-three batter Shubman Gill continues to rise through the ranks, achieving a career-best 14th position after his unbeaten 119 in the second innings of the recent Chennai Test against Bangladesh. He jumped from 19th to 14th spot in the rankings.

Shubman Gill's elegant stroke play and composure at the crease have turned him into one of the most exciting young talents across the globe.

His rise in the ICC Test batting rankings is proof of his growing stature in international cricket, as he is cementing his position as a future batting mainstay for India.

On the other hand, veteran all-rounder Ashwin showcased his class with both bat and ball during Team India’s massive win over the Tigers in Chennai.

His crucial knock of 113 in the first innings not only helped India build a strong foundation but also propelled him up seven spots to 72nd in the latest ICC Test batting rankings.

Apart from his batting, Ashwin’s lethal bowling in the second innings, where he claimed six wickets, strengthened his top position in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings. Meanwhile, Ashwin’s trusted partner, Ravindra Jadeja, also made significant gains in the latest ICC Test rankings.

The Indian all-rounder’s steady knock of 86 during his very crucial 199-run partnership with Ashwin and his five-wicket haul in the Chennai Test helped Jadeja move up to 37th in the ICC Test Batting Rankings and one spot to sixth position in the Test bowling rankings.

Jadeja continues to dominate the all-rounder rankings as well, extending his lead with a career-best 475 points, while Ashwin remains the second-best Test all-rounder, and the off-spinner has added 48 points to go up to 370 in the ICC Test all-rounder rankings.

Meanwhile, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has broken into the top five for the first time in his career, following his impressive half-century in the first inning in Chennai.

On the other hand, fast bowler Akash Deep has climbed 10 spots, reaching 88th position in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings after claiming two crucial wickets in the first Test against Bangladesh.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Hasan Mahmud surge in the ICC Test Rankings

On a global scale, Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s gritty 82 in the second innings earned him a climb of 14 places, placing him at 48th in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. Hasan Mahmud’s five-wicket haul in the first innings of the match also helped him jump five positions to 44th among bowlers.

Shakib Al Hassan has advanced one spot to 43rd in the batting rankings, while Taskin Ahmed made significant progress, climbing eight places to 66th among bowlers.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya reached a career-high ranking of eighth, following his nine-wicket match haul. His performance was instrumental in Sri Lanka’s victory over New Zealand.
