Rohit Sharma Recalls His Surprising Hat-trick Against Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma recalled his surprising hat-trick for Deccan Chargers while playing against his current franchise Mumbai Indians in an interaction with Australia opener David Warner on Instagram. It was on May 6, 2009, when Rohit Sharma picked up his first-ever hat-trick in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Opting to bat at Centurion, now defunct Deccan Chargers had posted 145/6 in the stipulated 20 overs, with Rohit Sharma top-scoring for the side in the middle-order with 38 runs. His innings was laced with two boundaries and one hit over the fence.
In response, Mumbai Indians began the chase on a poor note, as stalwarts Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar were sent packing inside two overs. JP Duminy, however, was looking in fine touch with Pinal Shah launching a quick-fire cameo. It was Rohit Sharma’s 16th over which put the game into bed.
In the last two deliveries, he dismissed Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh off the successive deliveries. He then returned into the 18th overs as JP Duminy edged one to hand Adam Gilchrist a comfortable catch behind the stumps. It also helped Rohit Sharma complete his hat-trick.

Rohit Sharma in an Instagram conversation with his SunRisers Hyderabad counterpart David Warner said he was left in disbelief after pulling off the hat-trick. He, however, explained he does not bowls anymore after a finger injury as he cannot grip the ball properly anymore.
“I can’t believe that man, I seriously can’t believe that I took a hat-trick against MI while I was playing for Hyderabad (Deccan Chargers). I don’t even remember how i used to bowl then, I got a finger injury and after that I could not grip the ball properly and these days it’s better to stay away from bowling.”
Rohit Sharma went on to pick up his fourth wicket in the match in form of Saurabh Tiwary and was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his all-round performance as DC sealed it by 19 runs.
