Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant are on the radar for IPL 2025 captaincy. With a mega auction lined up ahead of the season, teams are looking forward to roping in these names and making them captains of the respective franchises.

Rohit Sharma was removed as the Mumbai Indians captain which was the first major breaking news ahead of the start of IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya was named the new captain and he had a mixed response.

Rohit was seemingly very disappointed at this move and through his body language made it very evident that he might want to part ways with the franchise.

Suryakumar Yadav, the newly appointed T20I captain of India, and Rishabh Pant are also on the radar. SKY and Pant's future with MI and DC are in question heading into the mega auction.

A few days ago, Ricky Ponting stepped down from his position as head coach of the franchise. The future of Pant with the franchise is also in question.

Speaking about, his recent elevation as the T20I captain of India, has raised his stocks as well. With teams preferring to have an Indian captain, SKY is a big name that can be snapped up by a few teams.

His performances with the bat in the recently concluded World Cup was good as well. He scored 199 runs including a fifty with a strike rate of over 150.

It is interesting to note what the future holds for Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul in the IPL. Mumbai Indians finished last on the points table under Hardik.

Lucknow Super Giants failed to make it to the knockouts for the third time straight under KL Rahul. LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka had a fallout with KL Rahul which indicates to possibility that he too might leave the franchise next year.

Thus the dynamics of the tournament with the mega auction lined up will change with many names cropping up as possible captains of different franchises. Hardik's case is the most interesting one. He was named the new captain of Mumbai Indians.

He was then the vice-captain of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024 and was primed to replace Rohit Sharma as the next T20I skipper. However, Gautam Gambhir appointed SKY as the new T20I captain. Pandya is not even the vice-captain of the side with Shubman Gill taking that position.

"The captain for the last 10 years was stagnant. The coaches have changed but the captain has been the same. I actually went in with some sort of thought process. The new people who come in (to the squad), I wanted to get them to (follow) my thought process because I know how IPL works and what it takes to be a successful team. It takes time to take everyone on board and make them do something which they are not used to," Rohit said on how led Mumbai Indians over the years.

KKR won their third IPL title in IPL 2024 as they beat Mumbai Indians twice in the league stage of the tournament. They also won for the first time at the Wankhede since 2012. Gautam Gambhir was the architect of Kolkata's season win in 2014.
