Dinesh Lad, Rohit Sharma's childhood coach, has delivered a huge update on the India captain's chances of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The veteran batsman announced his retirement from T20Is after leading the team to victory in the T20 World Cup in June this year. Even though he has not retired from the other two formats, many believe that the right-handed batsman will be retiring from international cricket soon.

Rumors circulating on social media state that Rohit Sharma will be bringing down the curtains on his illustrious career after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. India look destined to qualify for the final of the tournament and many believe that Rohit Sharma will retire from Tests as well as ODIs after leading the team in the title decider.

However, Dinesh Lad has trashed the rumors and has said that Rohit Sharma will not be retiring from ODIs before the 2027 World Cup. Lad admitted that the India star could retire from Tests next year but would continue playing the ODIs.

"No, look, I am not saying that Rohit Sharma will announce his retirement after the World Test Championship, though he might," Lad told Dainik Jagran when asked if Rohit would retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the ongoing WTC cycle.

"As he is getting older, it seems like he could retire from Test cricket. The reason could be that he wants to keep himself fully fit for one-day cricket. However, I am 100 percent certain that Rohit Sharma will play in the 2027 One Day World Cup. The kind of cricket he is playing is incredible," he added.

ODI World Cup a dream for Rohit Sharma:

Time and again, Rohit has said that winning the ODI World Cup is a dream for him. Although he made his debut in international cricket in 2007, he did not find a place in the squad for the 2011 World Cup that India won.

Rohit has played in every World Cup since that snub but is yet to lay his hands on the coveted trophy. Last year, he became only the fourth Indian captain to take the team to the final of the World Cup but could not guide them to a win. Earlier this year, Rohit once again stated that he really wants to win the World Cup.

"I haven't really thought about retirement. But, I don't know where life takes you. I am playing well at the moment and I am thinking of continuing for a few more years. I really want to win that World Cup," said Rohit on YouTube chat show 'Breakfast with Champions'.

"We have grown up watching the 50-over World Cup. There is the World Test Championship final happening at Lord's in 2025. Hopefully, we will make it there," he added.
