Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra shared his prediction about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement from international cricket. Rohit and Kohli have already called time on their illustrious T20I careers after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

However, two of the modern-era legends will continue playing ODI and Test cricket for Team India, but there are high chances of them saying goodbye to the international arena within two to three years.

Well, there are a lot of speculations about Kohli and Rohit’s future in the Indian cricket team. Amidst the talks about their international future, Mishra said that there are only two-three years of cricket left for Rohit Sharma, but he boldly claimed that the Indian skipper will not play in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa.

Amit Mishra predicts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's retirement timelines

Even Rohit recently avoided giving a proper timeline of his career from now on. The former spinner said that his “favorite Indian player,” Rohit, will retire from international cricket in two years, possibly after the ICC Champion Trophy 2025.

The former leg-spinner said that Rohit will continue to play IPL, but it is a big no from him that the Indian skipper will go beyond 2026 as an international player. Mishra also made a prediction about Kohli’s international career, saying his former captain will also retire from international cricket in 2026.

Amit Mishra said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast on YouTube: “Rohit Sharma has two-three years of cricket left, but he will not play in the ODI World Cup in 2027. He will play in the in the IPL. He will retire from international cricket in two years. Most probably after the Champions Trophy 2025. Virat Kohli will also retire at the same time.

They will both retire together from international cricket, and they must retire for the next generation. If they will not retire, then how will the new players come into the team? They are already 35+, and at the time of their retirement, they will be around 39. So, the players play till this age, a maximum of 40.”

Fame and power changed Virat Kohli's persona; Rohit Sharma remains unchanged: Amit Mishra

Meanwhile, Mishra revealed the key difference between Rohit and Kohli. He highlighted Rohit’s approachable demeanor, which remained unchanged from the first time they met to the present, making him more relatable to his teammates.

Contrary to Rohit, Mishra noted significant changes in Virat Kohli’s behavior over time, especially after getting India's captaincy. The former cricketer noted that fame, power, and captaincy changed Kohli over the years.

Mishra said on the podcast, “The difference is in nature. Rohit is very open with his players. A very good thing about Rohit is that when I met him for the first time, he was the same as he is now.

Virat changed a lot after gaining fame, power, and captaincy. There was hardly any talk between us. When you get power, you feel everybody is talking to you for a reason.”
