The 25-year-old Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who opens the innings for his side, showcased a sheer batting masterclass in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 quarter-final game against Uttar Pradesh and smashed 7 sixes on the trot in an over.
The second quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 is being played between the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Maharashtra and Karan Sharma-led Uttar Pradesh at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘B’, Motera, on Monday, November 28.

Uttar Pradesh won the toss in the match and they opted to bowl first. UP bowlers did a good job in the match, but they were unable to deal with the threat of Gaikwad.
In the 49th over of the innings, the Uttar Pradesh skipper handed the ball to Shiva Singh, who had given 45 runs in his first 8 overs. The 25-year-old Ruturaj, who plays for CSK in the IPL, went berserk against the bowler and smashed 7 sixes on the trot as the 5th delivery of the over was a no-ball.
Shiva conceded 43 runs in the over and the score of Maharashtra went from 272-5 in 48 overs to 315-5 in 49 overs.
Also, during the 49th over, Ruturaj completed his double century and ended his innings with 220* runs off 159 balls, including 10 fours and 16 sixes. Barring Gaikwad, no Maharashtra batter was able to cross the 40-run mark in the match.

The 25-year-old has become the first-ever player to smash 7 sixes in an over in all forms of cricket and he has also become the first-ever batter to score 43 runs in an over in limited-overs cricket.
Before Gaikwad, the record for most sixes in an over in List-A cricket was jointly held by Herschelle Gibbs, Thisara Perera and Jaskaran Malhotra, who all had smashed 6 sixes.
Meanwhile, before today, only once 43 runs were scored in an over in List-A cricket as Joe Carter and Brett Hampton had smashed William Ludick for 43 runs in 2018 during a game between Northern District and Central District.
During his remarkable innings against the quality Uttar Pradesh bowling attack, Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed 16 sixes to equal Rohit Sharma’s record for most sixes by an Indian in List-A cricket in an innings.
