Australia skipper Pat Cummins shared his opinions of Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal during Ashes 2023. Pat Cummins said that he has seen such dismissals many times in his career and it was always given out.
During the 2nd Test of Ashes 2023 at Lord’s, Jonny Bairtow’s dismissal erupted a lot of controversy. In the final innings, Baistow wandered out of his crease before the ball was dead. As a result, Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey hit the stumps to attempt stumping.
Australian players appealed for dismissal as Jonny Bairstow and non-striker Ben Stokes stood confused on the field. Later, the third umpire adjudged Bairtow as out. However, the incident invited a lot of criticism from the Australian team and became a talking point for fans and experts.

I Have Seen That Type Of Dismissals At Least 20 Times: Pat Cummins
During a conversation on Channel Seven’s Sunrise, Australia skipper Pat Cummins opened up about the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow during Lord’s Test. The Australian pacer said he has seen such type of dismissals at least 20 times in his career and it was always given out.
“I haven’t experienced anything like that before…. but I will say across my career, I’ve seen that type of dismissal at least 20 times … and it is always out,” the right-arm pacer said.

Jonny Bairstow Dismissal Heated Up Lord’s Long Room: Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins also revealed how the incident heated up the long room at Lord’s, where England and Australia players engaged in verbal banter. He revealed that David Warner and Usman Khawaja were involved in a heated exchange with some members in the Lord’s long room.
“Davey [Warner] and Ussie [Khawaja] went back at a few of the members following some comments, it was getting pretty heated. I got the gossip from the other guys, and then we all took a deep breath and looked to stay composed. We had a break, and then re-set,” Cummins revealed.

Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal was a huge turning point in the Lord’s Test, where England needed to chase 371 runs in the final innings. In the end, Australia pulled off a victory by 43 runs in the match.
Meanwhile, Ashes 2023 ended in a 2-2 draw. Australia won the first two games. England won the 3rd and 5th Test. The 4th Test ended in a draw after being affected by rain. Australia managed to retain the Ashes urn.
