SA vs WI: Watch - West Indies Captain Rovman Powell Saves Child, Injures Himself In A Fielding Effort

West Indies captain Rovman Powell saved a 5-year-old from a catastrophic injury while in a fielding effort in the 2nd T20I against South Africa.

During SA’s batting in the 2nd innings, the ball was smashed toward the boundary. Powell, who is not a small man, was chasing the ball with all the speed his legs could generate. At the boundary rope stood a 5-year-old ball-boy. Heading straight towards the child, Powell aborted his effort to stop the ball and instead jumped to the side of the child. He then sidestepped another ball-boy, who was sitting a few feet away from the rope. Powell went over the advertising boards, injuring himself in the process.

Clearly shaken from the moment, the Jamaican all-rounder was taken off the field for treatment.

His near future, like his appearance in IPL 2023 for Delhi Capitals, is not in jeopardy, as Rovman Powell entered back in the ground during the match.

The South African match organizers might keep in mind the selection of ball-boys during matches, as children too young to be near the sport can prove catastrophic.

South Africa breaks record for highest successful run-chase in T20 history

South Africa broke the record for the highest successful run chase in the history of T10 cricket in the second match against West Indies yesterday.

Batting first, the WI put up a mammoth total of 258/5 in their 20 overs, with Johnson Charles scoring a 46-ball-118, while Kyle Mayers and Romario Shephard make meaningful contributions

Chasing the total down, SA got off to a flying start. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks’ opening stand stood for 152 runs, with the latter getting out on 68. De Kock ended up scoring a ton. After the Proteas chased down the score with 7 balls to spare, de Kock was named player of the match.

This was the highest successful run chase in T20 history, breaking Australia’s record, who scored 245/5 against New Zealand in 2018.
