Team India secured a victory over Australia in the virtual quarter-final as they won by 24 runs in their last Super 8 match on Monday.

India through their bowlers defended that 205 that they posted batting first. Australia threatened to get the score through Travis Head (76) and Mitchell Marsh (37) adding an 81-run stand after the early wicket of David Warner.

However, the Indian bowlers kept the pressure on the Australian batters and took wickets at crucial phases in the game. The wicket of Travis Head was the final nail in the coffin for Australia. Jasprit Bumrah foxed him with a slower delivery and Rohit Sharma completed the catch to send him out.

The other key moments of the match were Axar Patel taking the crucial catch of Mitchell Marsh who was well set and Kuldeep Yadav dismissing Glenn Maxwell.

Sachin Tendulkar Tweets After India's Win

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to acknowledge India's efforts on the field in the match against Australia. He congratulated the likes of Axatr Patel and Jasperit Bumrah for seizing the key moments in the match.

“Well done, India! Two crucial moments defined our victory today: @akshar2026's brilliant catch at the boundary and @Jaspritbumrah93's wicket of Travis Head. Can't wait for the semi-finals" wrote Sachin On Twitter.

He further praised Rohit Sharma's counter-attacking knock against Australia after India lost the wicket of Virat Kohli early for a duck. Rohit's 41-ball 92 set the perfect platform for India's end score of 205/5. He hit seven fours and eight sixes in his knock as he scored 76 of those runs in boundaries.

"Witnessing @ImRo45 bat was pure joy. He got into good positions, and his effortless bat swing and timing helped him achieve the distance he got. A special knock indeed" Sachin tweeted on Rohit's knock.

This is the fifth time that India made it to the T20 World Cup semi-final and the second time on the trot. They played the final twice in 2007 and 2014 with them winning the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Team India will now face England in the second semi-final in Guyana on June 27 from 8 pm IST. India have a chance to avenge their 2022 semi-final defeat to England in this game. If they win, it will be their third T20 World Cup final. Under Rohit, India played the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, the WTC 2023 final and the ICC World Cup 2023 final. He too is waiting to win his first ICC title as captain.

Rohit for his match-winning knock was named the Man of the Match in the game. He spoke about what India did right in winning the game and also complimented his bowlers for the job they did.

"Satisfying. We know the opposition and the threat they bring. As a team we did well, kept doing the things we needed to do. Gives us good confidence as a team. 200 is a good score but when you are playing here with wind being a big factor, anything can happen. But I think we used to conditions really well, and it was about individuals doing their job. If was about getting wickets at the right time" said Rohit in the post-match presentation.
