Former England skipper Michael Vaughan took a dig at Simon Doull's remarks about reverse swing during the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Michael Vaughan highlighted that Simon Doull suggested fielders throwing the ball on the bounce to scuff it up naturally is acceptable for achieving reverse swing.

The T20 World Cup 2024 concluded with Team India defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final match in Barbados on June 29. Rohit Sharma led the Indian team to their second T20 World Cup trophy. India had previously won their first T20 World Cup trophy in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Simon Doull Talked About Reverse Swing - Michael Vaughan

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, Michael Vaughan highlighted Simon Doull's commentary on reverse swing during the World Cup. Vaughan stated that while throwing the ball on the bounce to scuff it up naturally for reverse swing is acceptable, using sandpaper isn't.

"One of the highlights of the World Cup was Simon Doull's commentary. In one of the games, he talked about reverse swing and how he feels it’s absolutely fine for the fielders to throw the ball in on the bounce to scuff up the ball naturally. The ball gets bounce and reverse; it’s fine, but obviously using SANDPAPER isn’t," Vaughan said.

Australian cricketers David Warner, Cameron Bancroft, and Steve Smith were involved in the infamous Sandpaper Gate scandal in 2018. Steve Smith and David Warner were banned for one year, while Cameron Bancroft served a nine-month ban. Smith later resumed leading the Australian team after making a comeback.

Jasprit Bumrah Is The Best White-Ball Bowler - Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan praised Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah for their crucial contributions to the Indian team in the final match. Vaughan stated that Kohli provided stability when his team needed him. He stated that Virat helped his team achieve a competitive total on a challenging surface.

"Virat played the innings his team needed on that day. They needed a little bit of a rock, someone to hang in there. They were falling at the other end, mate. It looked like at one stage they were going to get 150, and he managed to hang in there, and they got a decent score on that pitch with a bit of spin," Vaughan said.

The cricketer-turned-commentator described the final match as the best in the tournament. Vaughan called Jasprit Bumrah the best white-ball bowler he has ever seen, adding that the Indian pacer can contribute with the ball in all conditions.

"It was never going to be easy, but I have to say it was probably the best game I saw in the whole tournament because it had sheer quality bowling. Bumrah is the best white-ball bowler I have ever seen. He can just make the ball talk. He's just got the ball reverse-swinging, which is remarkable," he further added.

Virat Kohli scored 76 runs off 59 balls, including six fours and two sixes, as the Men in Blue posted a total of 176/7. Axar Patel played a crucial role with 47 runs after the early loss of three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets for 18 runs in his four overs to restrict the opposition team to 169/8 in 20 overs.
